Cantera Stone Advantages

  • Life cycle — While cultured stone is a strong product, it does not have the life cycle of Cantera Stone.
  • Moisture control — Cantera Stone, with cavity wall construction and IWR, is a significant selling advantage if moisture control is a concern.
  • Accent capability — Installing brick and custom cast stone accents on top of cultured stone is not possible because there is no bearing point.
  • Ready order — Cantera Stone uses Reading Rock’s Ready Service Program and is available in three weeks or less.
  • Cost efficiencies — Labor and materials are less than natural stone products.
  • Durability — Other machine produced natural stone products cannot be used at grade or cleansed with acid-based products.
  • Standards — Cantera Stone is consistently produced to an ASTM standard, ensuring product performance.

Specification and Installation

Solid Cantera Stone units with physical dimensions and characteristics comply with ASTM 55 (concrete brick) and the physical properties of ASTM 568 (limestone dimension stone).

Cantera Stone meets or exceeds the following ASTM 568 specifications.

Cantera Stone is manufactured with Rheopel Plus IWR. Installation is per ACI 530 (similar to RockCast Architectural Masonry Veneer products).Weight is approximately 40 lbs per square foot.

Cantera Stone is shipped and sold in “FULL CUBES ONLY” and by height. Pulling from random cubes is required to create the desired patterns.

Once the product is tumbled, some units will be broken. The broken pieces will not be culled but will be packaged/shipped providing additional random lengths. Smaller units (4" and 6") are more likely to break during the tumbling operation than larger units, therefore providing more random lengths in those sizes.

Patterns/Setting Guidelines

To achieve a more uniform look use only 1 or 2 heights. The most common and desired look is achieved from 3 or 4 heights to replicate natural stone.

A hand splitter, chisel, and hammer are the only additional tools required to install a Cantera Stone project. These tools will work on the jobsite to create length adjustments and returns. N or

S mortar can be used but N is recommended. The type of grout joint is up to the specifier. Field panels will show various grout joints for illustration purposes.
